Hayden Panettiere to Reprise Scream 4 Character in ‘Scream’ Sequel – The Hollywood Reporter

Hayden Panettiere is returning to the world of Shout.

Panettiere, who was one of the stars of 2011 scream 4has closed a deal to reprise his character in the latest installment of the horror franchise from Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures.

The two companies resurrected the slasher film series in January with Shout – also the name of the 1996 original that started it all – the fifth installment that proved audiences craved bloody thrills as it grossed over $81 million domestically and $140 million worldwide.

A sequel was quickly in the works and this week it was announced that Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortega, who all survived their ordeal with the killer known as Ghostface, I would be coming back. Principal photography is scheduled to begin this summer.

In scream 4Panettiere played Kirby Reed, a teenager in the fictional and terrifying Woodsboro, California, the setting for the Shout franchise stories. While initially a “best friend” type, Reed rises to hero status by the end, which also sees her nearly mortally wounded but now a survivor.

Plot details for the new feature are being kept under wraps, but the companies said the new feature “continues with the four survivors of the Ghostface murders as they leave Woodsboro behind and begin a new chapter.”

The creative team behind the reboot is back for this latest effort. James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick return to co-write the script, while Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, from a collective of filmmakers known as Radio Silence, return as directors.

Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein and William Sherak of Project X Entertainment serve as producers. Williamson and Radio Silence’s third member, Chad Villella, are executive producers along with Gary Barber and Peter Oillataguerre of Spyglass, Ron Lynch, Cathy Konrad and Marianne Maddalena.

Panettiere had a breakout role as cheerleader Claire Bennett on the NBC superhero series, Heroes. The last Shout will mark his first on-screen appearance since ending a season starring for six seasons in a musical drama, Nashvillewhich ran from 2012 to 2018.

She is represented by Mainstay Entertainment.
